Dog activities at the Autumn Show & Horse Trials

Discover an array of exciting dog activities at the Autumn Show & Horse Trials. These ever-popular events are a must see for any dog lover – and all dog owners are welcome to bring their dog along to compete. You can also see our gundog demonstration and displays, and learn about greyhounds, whippets and lurchers with the Sussex Longdog Association.

Gundog Scurry Competition

The BASC gundog scurries are fun to take part in and fun to watch! Dogs compete to retrieve a dummy in the fastest time. It’s open to all dog breeds – just come along and enter on the day.

Proceeds will be shared between BASC Wildlife Fund and Gamekeepers Welfare Trust.

Cost: £2 per ‘have a go’

Terrier Racing

Watch terriers live up to their name as they tear up the course in this action-packed event! The races are open to all terrier type or size dogs – just turn up and get involved and you might get a rosette. Additional charges apply for ‘have a go’.

Gundog Demonstrations

Come and see spaniels and retrievers in the Countryside Ring do what they do best as they demonstrate their talents at the highly entertaining display from WhipCurl Canine Resolve. Find out about the different stages of gundog training from basic puppy obedience through to advanced work. Plus you can meet the gundogs in our kennels near Blue Gate.

West Sussex Warreners

Find out about the work of the warreners who manages a warren for breeding game such as rabbits and hares. They will be bringing along breeds such as the French basset fauve de bretagne hounds which are mostly used for driven ground game shooting, and others.

Dog Agility

Visit the dog agility ring where you can watch the fast and furious displays on the obstacle course. Plus your dog can have a go! Run by Quad Squad Dog Agility.

Rare Breed Gundogs & Terriers

Come to the Countryside Ring area and see these rare breed dogs and learn about the efforts being made to preserve them for future generations. You can also meet them and their owners in the kennel area.

Dog Show

Take part in the fun dog show! Registration opens at 9am, judging begins at 10.30am.

Longdogs

The Sussex Longdog Association was founded back in 1979 by a group of lurcher enthusiasts and are the oldest running lurcher club in the country. Meet the team and find out about greyhounds, whippets and lurchers at their stand near the Countryside Ring.

Lowland Search & Rescue Dog display

Witness the incredible skill of Lowland Search & Rescue Dog team demonstrate their technique of ground-scenting in the Countryside Ring.

Kent & Sussex and Coakham Bloodhounds (Saturday)

Enjoy the display and admire the skills of the huntsmen and hounds in the Countryside Ring.

Old Surrey Burstow & West Kent Foxhound (Sunday)

Enjoy a rare chance to enter the Ardingly (Main) Ring and mingle with the friendly hounds and huntsmen resplendent in their full regalia. Taking place at 1.30pm.
