Country Sports

Get your boots muddy and experience countryside sports and pursuits at this year’s Autumn Show & Horse Trials. You can try your hand at a range of country sports. We’ll see you there!

Fly Casting

Come and ‘have a go’ at fly dressing and fly casting on our lake under the expert guidance of the Cinder Hill Fly Fishing club. There will also be demonstrations conducted twice a day, once in the morning and again each afternoon.

Angling Display

See the angling team from Bodle Bros demonstrate their skills in the Countryside Ring. Their specialist team have extensive knowledge on fishery science and many types of fishing not just in the UK but across Europe.  If you are a fishing enthusiast or a complete novice, you’ll be sure to find their display informative and entertaining.

Archery & Axe Throwing

Try your hand at archery and target windows and doors of the Herstmonceux castle replica! Plus have a go at the traditional country sport of axe throwing with Archers of Herstmonceux.

Cost: 6 Arrows: £5 (Ages 8+), Blunt Arrows: £5 (Ages 2-7)
4 Axes: £5 (Ages 8+), 6 Safe Axes: £2.50 (Ages 2-7)

Laser Clay Shoot

The laser clay system uses standard but deactivated 12-bore shotguns with built-in infrared technology.  The guns feel and shoot like the real thing but without the recoil and bruises!  For ages 10+. 

Cost: £5

BASC

Come and meet the team from the British Association for Shooting & Conservation for butchery and cookery demonstrations.

Money raised from the Gundog Scurries will be shared between BASC Wildlife Fund and Gamekeepers Welfare Trust.

Pony Club Games

Mounted Games is a team sport that combines a series of exhilarating races that involve a mix of turns, handovers, vaulting and galloping. Mounted Games is an adaptation of Gymkhana and riders can develop skills such as accuracy, agility, concentration, speed, hand to eye coordination, team work and sportsmanship. Pony clubs from the south east will be putting on a display mid morning and mid afternoon across both days of the show in the Countryside Ring.
