The Showground was the setting for a celebration of achievement on Saturday 16 November when the West Sussex Scout Council returned to the Norfolk Pavilion for their annual Duke of Edinburgh Awards event.
Around 250 people were there on the day to show their support for the young people who had worked so hard to complete their personal programme of activities and projects.
Mrs Amanda Jupp, Chairman of the West Sussex County Council, presented the 44 Bronze, 27 Silver and four Gold awards and West Sussex Scouts County Commissioner Irene Orford congratulated the young people on their achievements.
Irene also thanked Amanda Jupp for presenting the awards and all the leaders and parents for the encouragement they have given to the recipients.
“West Sussex Scout Council has used the South of England Showground for the past two years now and they have found the site to be to be very convenient, especially the extensive free parking,” said Irene.
“We are also very happy with the organisation of the arrangements for the event by the Showground staff. After having given them clear instructions of our needs, it was wonderful to turn up on the day to find everything as requested. That takes a lot of the worries out of an event such as this and is very time saving for us as volunteers.”
“We were especially impressed with the catering,” Irene added. “We had asked for tea and cakes and were delighted with the wonderful spread of delicious homemade cakes provided by Becky of The Garden Chef – it really was an extra special treat.”
