BUMPER LINE UP FOR AUTUMN SHOW & GAME FAIR - 03/10/2009
Hot on the heels of the record-breaking South of England Show, preparations are well underway for the next big event in the rural calendar.
June’s flagship show saw a bumper attendance and organisers expect many will return to Ardingly for the Autumn Show & Game Fair. The weekend event takes place at the South of England Centre, near Haywards Heath, on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October.
“The show is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of the countryside”, says Brian Williams who is Chairman of the South of the England Agricultural Society. “There’s just so much going on, from country sports, crafts, falconry, a dog agility show, vintage machinery, and mouthwatering local food and drink, to stunning displays of seasonal flowers and vegetables, a children’s fair and a wealth of trade stands for relaxed shopping.”
New for 2009, the HMS Collingwood Volunteer Cadet Corps display is an attraction that’s sure to make things go with a bang. There’s also a tribute to Britain’s Armed Forces with the Band of the Royal Yeomanry.
The popularity of the Autumn Show & Game Fair goes from strength to strength. Devotees of country pursuits, as well as newcomers, are equally well served. “Those who have never tried their hand, or are new to a country sport, can get expert advice on how to get started”, adds Brian. “And aficionados will be able to discover the very latest developments to hone their skills.”
This year sees a repeat of the highly popular open-air harvest festival service launched last year. It will involve the congregation from St Peter’s Church,Ardingly, led by the Revd John Crutchley and his choir.
Deborah Barber, Director of the South of England Agricultural Society, said: “Autumn may seem a long way off, but the planning for our shows goes on all year round and we hope everyone will continue to support us at this event.
“The Autumn Show & Game Fair is a great day out in the heart of the Sussex countryside. It is a real seasonal celebration, with something for everyone - and this year’s Show promises to be bigger and better than ever.”
The show is held at the South of England Centre, Ardingly, West Sussex, and is open from 9am to 5pm each day. Tickets cost £6 for adults, £5 for students and senior citizens, £3 for children under 16, and £15 for a family ticket (two adults and two children).
