Saying It With Flowers At The South Of England Show - 05/06/2008

A fantastic array of flowers awaits garden lovers at this year’s South of England Show.
The Show’s horticultural marquee will be filled with a captivating mix of colour and scents throughout the three-day even at Ardingly, near Haywards Heath, West Sussex, from June 5 to 7.
One of the most popular features of the Show, the marquee is and is packed with ideas and inspiration for gardeners.
Nurseries from all over the country will be exhibiting a wide range of beautiful plants from clematis, sweetpeas, fuchsias, and hostas to Alpines, orchids, bonsai trees and carnivorous plants, such as the Venus Fly Trap.
Stunning displays of floral art will be on show, with entrants coming up with creative designs based on the Show’s ‘Year of Food and Farming’ theme.
Talented youngsters will be demonstrating off their horticultural skills. Students from Oathall Community College in Haywards Heath and Plumpton Agricultural College will be taking part in a garden design competition and their show gardens will be on display. Jeremy Stone, a previous winner who has gone on to set up his own garden design business, will also be exhibiting.
If you’ve always fancied growing your own vegetables, the National Vegetable Society will be on hand with practical advice and growing techniques.

Pat Jeffries, secretary of the South of England Agricultural Society’s horticultural committee, said: “The sights and scents of the horticultural marquee make it a real feast for the senses. With everything from single blooms to complete gardens it also provides lots of inspiration and innovative ideas for gardeners – whether you are a green-fingered expert or a new gardening enthusiast tending a window box.”
The South of England Show, held at the South of England Centre, is a celebration of rural life. Visitors will also be able to enjoy spectacular arena events, world-class show jumping, prize-winning livestock, rural pursuits and crafts, and a wealth of other attractions.
