Young Craftsman of the Year 2017

A highly prestigious competition open to anyone aged 14-21 years. Entries include Woodwork, Metalwork, Ceramics, Textiles and Design & Technology. Open to anyone living or studying in Berkshire, East Sussex, Hampshire (inc I.O.W.), Kent, Surrey and West Sussex.

Young Craftsman of the Year competition

This event embraces two of the South of England Agricultural Society’s objectives, namely to promote crafts and skills and to encourage young people to extend themselves and produce work of the highest standard. It is hoped that the Awards will provide financial assistance and publicity to encourage the successful candidates to pursue and broaden their skills.

Competition details

There are five classes:

Wood – predominantly wood, but may incorporate metal, glass or leather

Metal – including silver, decorative iron work and functional metal fabrication

Ceramics – an article made from clay or stoneware that has been fired

Textiles – a finished article in any fabric including leather

Design and Technology – an article designed to fulfil a need and made from a combination of materials, or a single material

Craftsman – someone who practices a craft with great skill, technique, expertise, mastery and artistry.
