2010 Education Calendar :

The Jim Green Memorial Competition - 17th March 2010 - at the South of England Centre. 10 teams of students will be taking part in the practical tasks and exhibiting their product evidence. See 'Competition' section for more information.

Spring Garden and Leisure Show – 2nd and 3rd May 2010 – visit the Education Marquee and find out more about the work of the Agricultural Education and Development Committee.

CFE Leconfield Estate Day, Near Petworth, West Sussex – May 2010 - activities include Livestock, Lakes (fly-casting and pond ecology), Woodland management, Game Deer and Conservation, and traditional building methods.

South of England Show – 10th, 11th and 12th June 2010
School parties (at reduced rates) are welcome on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th.

Visit the 'KNOWLEDGE BOX' the Society's Education marquee which this year – the International Year of Biodiversity - is featuring 'Sustainable Methods of Land Management and Food Production'. Find out how farmers can encourage biodiversity on their farms. Spot the wildlife in the hedgerow; find out how field margins can benefit biodiversity and how beetles can help the farmer with pest control.

The Children's Activity Area will feature a large countryside mural that children can populate with bugs and beasties and put leaves on the trees. Make a bug house from recycled materials. Try the floor puzzles and find out about insect lifecycles. Create an attractive Hay Hat to wear at the Show. Listen to the storyteller and take a guided tour of the livestock area. Schools and Colleges can apply for tickets using this form.

CFE Balcombe Estate Day, near Haywards Heath, West Sussex - June 2010 - activities include Forestry management and timber processing, Pheasant breeding, gundog handling demonstration, machinery and crops. (Fully booked for 2010).

CFE Albury Estate Day, Surrey – June 2010 - a chance for pupils to find out about woodland management, beekeeping, gamekeeping, amphibians and reptiles and the fisheries. (Fully booked for 2010)

Closing Date for Project Assignment Competition – 1st July 2010 - open to students studying at Land-Based Colleges. See Land Based Colleges section for more details.

Connect with the Countryside 'Healthy Food for our Future' - July 2010 - A free educational day for school children in years 5 & 6.- a chance for children to find out about food production and the countryside with lots of 'hands-on' activities. This event takes place at the South of England Centre, Ardingly.

CFE Parham Estate Day, near Storrington, West Sussex - September 2010 - activities include Lakes (ecology and fly fishing), Game keeping, Deer Management and conservation, Walled garden with herbs and flowers, Woodland management, animal tracking and plant identification.

Autumn Show and Game Fair – 2nd and 3rd October 2010 - visit the Education Stand to find out how the year went and what we have planned for 2011. On Sunday the prizes will be awarded for the Project Assignment Competition which is open to students studying at Land-Based Colleges.
